Battle
Picture Weekly was published by IPC Magazines, and ran from
the 8th of March 1975 until the 23rd of January 1988, at which
time it folded into the relaunched version of Eagle.
During its thirteen year tenure, Battle absorbed two
failing IPC titles, went into the toy business and had several
changes of identity. The title's undoubted golden era was
between 1975 and 1982, when Battle was a groundbreaking
war comic. Battle paved the way for titles such as
Action and 2000AD, and proved more than a match for
anything arch-rival DC Thomson were producing. Later revamps and
licensing deals diluted the comic's appeal in an attempt to stem
the tide of reducing sales, but market forces prevailed after
the desertion of the Action Man franchise, and Battle
was dispatched into history. This site
focuses on Battle's golden age, featuring stories that
broke the mould and characters that became icons of the British
industry. Follow the links below to experience a little of what
boys of the seventies enjoyed every week. |
